# OpenHAB
I deployed an OpenHAB server to get into the smart home scene. It is currently in a testing phase where I have not fully deployed the server (ie. nginx as web server frontend, etc). The deployment is inside of a FreeBSD jail residing on CROWLEY.

## Security
For my smarthome devices, I try to stick to zigbee/z-wave radios as they are low power, and secure (I don't want to have my WiFi hacked because my smart kettle didn't get an update). I've had great success with the zigbee smart LED lightbulb and plan to expand my smart devices.

## MQTT - Message Queue
One of the other services also included in this server is an MQTT broker. This broker is used to communicate device control and state over a messaging queue. I use an MQTT client on my phone to control the smart devices.

## Integration
OpenHAB can also hook into the NODE-RED automation server that I have setup. From what I understand OpenHAB also hooks up with Zoneminder, but I haven't tried anything yet and I only recently deployed Zoneminder and don't have any cameras configured yet.
